Review: ‘Charlie Brown’ not just for kids

MANILA, Philippines – “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” has the sentimental charm of a school play but the fairly new theater group 9 Works Theatrical also proved that this 1967 musical can also be enjoyed by adults with honest and well-calibrated direction.

The musical, featuring the well-loved “Peanuts” gang of cartoonist Charles Schulz, is devoid of the usual stage magic most theater-goers are familiar with. There isn’t even a plot but a series of vignettes (some of them can even fit a four-panel comic strip) and song-and-dance numbers presenting a slice of life in a day of Charlie Brown and his pals.
