Pinay killed in Missouri tornado saved son
JOPLIN, Missouri - Two Filipinas were among at least 122 victims of the devastating tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri last weekend, leaving massive devastation in the southwest town.
Grace Aquino was found inside a collapsed church last Sunday. Her two daughters, Divine and Eunice, said that their mother died while protecting their 12-year-old brother Jacob, who survived with minor injuries.

Aquino and her son were attending an evening service when the tornado hit.
Forty-seven church members survived, while three, including Aquino, were killed.

‘Chedeng’ won’t make landfall in Luzon anymore

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Chedeng (international codename Songda) has gained more strength, but is not expected to hit landfall in Luzon anymore, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.
In the agency’s 11 am press conference, PAGASA said the typhoon was last spotted 230 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph.
PAGASA said the typhoon is still moving in a northwesterly direction.
“Right now, iyung track is off the eastern coast of Luzon,” and is expected to hit Okinawa, Japan by Sunday, the bureau announced in their press conference.
The bureau had predicted the typhoon will hit landfall over the Aurora-Isabela area by Friday or Saturday.
